{"id":59036,"date":"2019-12-23T21:39:22","date_gmt":"2019-12-23T19:39:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.ethereumworldnews.com\/?p=59036"},"modified":"2019-12-23T21:42:54","modified_gmt":"2019-12-23T19:42:54","slug":"team-behind-nuls-hacked-500000-in-the-crypto-stolen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.ethereumworldnews.com\/team-behind-nuls-hacked-500000-in-the-crypto-stolen\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Behind NULS Hacked, $500,000 In the Crypto Stolen"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>$500,000 Worth of Crypto Stolen in NULS Hack<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you were around in the 2017\/2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.ethereumworldnews.com\/?s=crypto\">crypto<\/a> craze, you likely remember the name &#8220;NULS.&#8221; The altcoin project, branded as an &#8220;open-source, enterprise-grade, adaptive blockchain platform that offers fast-track business solutions for developers,&#8221; was once all the rage in some circles of this market, gaining mass traction and, as such, price.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that NULS has had quite the fall from grace since 2018.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">*Security Update* <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GN41agKgi1\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/GN41agKgi1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NULS (@Nuls) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Nuls\/status\/1208879558679654400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">December 22, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to an announcement published on December 22nd to the official Twitter and <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@nuls\/safety-update-c63abeb1b2fb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Medium<\/a> feeds of the project, the organization behind the blockchain recently &#8220;detected that an account of the NULS team was attacked by hackers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This hack purportedly allowed the hackers to transfer 2,000,000 NULS \u2014 worth some $500,000 as of the time of writing this (the asset has dropped slightly since this announcement came to light) \u2014 to a wallet that they control. Around 25% of the funds have &#8220;entered the trading market and couldn&#8217;t be traced,&#8221; potentially acting as a negative shock to the market.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining 75% of the funds have been &#8220;destroyed in a permanent freeze to prevent continued flow into the market and bring losses to community members.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The source of the hack has been fixed in a recent patch.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>VeChain Hacked As Well<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>NULS isn&#8217;t the only <a href=\"https:\/\/en.ethereumworldnews.com\/?s=blockchain\">blockchain<\/a> to have been hacked as of late.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, VeChain Foundation, the team behind the VeChain blockchain, was <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@vechainofficial\/vechain-foundation-announcement-8459492ee039\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">revealed<\/a> to have been compromised by a hacker. The hacker managed to break into the foundation&#8217;s buyback wallet purportedly due to a human error within the entity:<\/p>\n<p>We have narrowed down the possibilities enough to lead to a highly probable theory.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The error has since been fixed, the VeChain team has asserted. Security breach was most likely due to misconduct of one of the team members within our finance team.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The hacker, who remains at large, managed to withdraw 1.1 billion VET tokens worth an estimated $6.53 million to a private address.
