The US convenience store chain of Sheetz has just announced it will start accepting crypto payments for the purchase of items inside its stores and/or for the fill-up of cars, trucks and RVs at the pump. The integration of digital asset payments at Sheetz stores will be through partnerships with Flexa and NCR.
Flexa is a digital asset payments provider whereas NCR will provide the point-of-sale technology necessary for the crypto payments integration.
Customers of Sheetz will be able to pay for items and fuel using several digital assets supported by Flexa.
They include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash, just to name a few. Flexa also supports several stablecoins such as Gemini Dollar, DAI, Celo Dollar and USD Coin.
The co-founder of Flexa, Trevor Filter, pointed out that that global interest in digital assets was at peak levels. Therefore, now was the ideal time for real-life use cases. He explained:
With interest in digital currencies reaching all-time highs, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that there are real, tangible benefits for the merchants who accept them—not only reduced fraud and cost savings, but also a better and more mobile customer experience.
The digital asset payments will initially be rolled out at select Sheetz Cafe stores this summer with a planned rollout for acceptance at Sheetz fuel pumps later on in the year.
The Sheetz chain currently operates 622 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
