Filecoin aims at revolutionizing the decentralized storage industry
The highly anticipated Filecoin (FIL) mainnet will be launched today, October 15th, at 2:45 pm ending a three-year wait for initial investors of the project.
The top crypto exchanges of Binance, Gemini, KuCoin, Kraken and Huobi have all announced that they will be listing Filecoin (FIL) immediately after the mainnet launch.
Filecoin is the Most Anticipated Launch Since Ethereum and Bitcoin
The crypto exchange of Gemini was one of the first to announce that it will list Filecoin (FIL) and also offer custody solutions for the digital asset.
Gemini’s Co-Founder and CEO, Tyler Winklevoss, took to Twitter to highlight the importance of the Filecoin Mainnet launch. He explained that the launch of Filecoin was the most anticipated crypto event since the launch of Ethereum and Bitcoin. Mr. Winkevoss’s tweet can be found below.
As earlier mentioned the crypto exchanges of Binance, KuCoin, Kraken and Huobi also announced that they would be listing Filecoin at block 148,888. The team at Kraken went further by cautioning traders that mainnet listings are very volatile and investors should use extra caution.
Mainnet listings may be extremely volatile, which can present a great opportunity for experienced traders and investors. However, more novice traders are advised to exercise extra caution.
$100k in BNB Prizes for Depositing FIL into Binance
To celebrate the Filecoin (FIL) mainnet launch, Binance has announced $100,000 in BNB prizes to be shared amongst investors and traders who deposit FIL into the exchange. To participate, one has to deposit 100 or more Filecoin (FIL) tokens from a non-Binance source during the competition period from today until October 23rd, 0:00 UTC.
Will Filecoin (FIL) Eclipse BitTorrent?
Back in May of this year, the teams at Filecoin and BitTorrent had a tweef with each side claiming the other was vaporware. To begin with, the team at Filecoin accused Justin Sun and the Tron foundation of lacking original ideas and continuing to borrow those of other open-source projects.
In his response, Justin Sun slammed Filecoin (FIL) for being vaporware and copying BitTorrent’s code. Mr. Sun also pointed out that Filecoin had no functioning product three years after its ICO in September of 2017 whereas Tron has continued to deliver since its ICO around the same time.
Below is how the tweef started between the two teams.
Seriously? Do you own the Hexagon shape? You need to reexamine your ego bro. A shame that #IPFS hasn't delivered on filecoin system in 3 years & #BTFS/#BTT have been running smoothly. You're a vaporware scamming your investors w/ concept for a long time. Shame on you!
Both Filecoin (FIL) and BitTorrent (BTT) focus on decentralized file storage. Therefore, the next few weeks or months will be pivotal for Filecoin in terms of proving its worth amidst BitTorrent that has already had a considerable head start in terms of market dominance. What might assist Filecoin, is the fact that the project aims at diving into DeFi immediately after the mainnet launch.
